Flexor enthesopathy is a condition involving degeneration of the flexor muscles at their attachment to the elbow. This condition is comparable to “tennis elbow” or “golfer's elbow” in humans. It was first scientifically described in a doctoral study conducted by our department.
Flexor enthesopathy can occur on its own (primary) or combined with elbow dysplasia (concomitant). This condition is usually diagnosed via radiography, CT and arthroscopy.
Photo - A 4-year-old crossbreed with flexor enthesopathy. The radiograph shows the formation of a “track” (red arrow) and calcification in the flexor tendon (blue arrow). The CT scan also shows a reaction at the tendon attachment (arrow). Arthroscopy reveals thickening of the tendons and a few loose fibres.
