Unlike CT scans, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans do not use X-rays, but rather a strong magnetic field to create images. The technique is mainly used to visualise soft tissues thanks to its high contrast capabilities. MRI is particularly recommended for head and neck disorders, neurological complaints, joint, tendon and muscle injuries or foot disorders.
The examination takes 45 minutes and the patient is always placed under general anaesthesia.
