In (older) dogs with chronic hip disease, the severely thickened joint capsule makes it difficult to access the hip joint arthroscopically.

However, if one wishes to evaluate the health of a young dog's hip, this can be done relatively easily.

Due to the limited additional information obtained in this way and the fact that surgical intervention is still necessary, this is only performed in very exceptional cases.
